PR & COMMS MANAGER    

Salary - £35,000 to £38,000

Full-time/part-time (minimum of 4 days per week)

Home working to start with, then moving to a mix of home working and 2 to 3 core days working from CodeBase in Edinburgh  

The company

Cyan is an Edinburgh based tech company that’s looking for a PR & Comms Manager to help grow their business and to tell the world how they’re protecting children from abuse and reducing the risk of terrorism. This is an exciting time to join their team in this brand-new role as they’re growing fast and are well on the way to making a global impact.  

Cyan delivers new technology to help law enforcement, social media and cloud companies block and find harmful content from paedophiles and terrorists. Described by the UK Government as offering “game-changing” tech, 2021 is a big year for them and they will be focusing on launching new products, continuing to expand internationally, and raising their profile.     

The Role

If you enjoy being part of a quick moving organisation and like to make a difference fast, this role might be for you. You’ll also need to have developed ambitious business to business comms strategies before, and ideally have worked in the tech sector, although this isn’t essential.  

You’ll need to have placed many high value stand-alone pieces in key broadsheets and specialist publications in your time and written engaging copy to an extremely professional standard (this is something that’s particularly important to Cyan).  

You’ll need to be proactive in spotting opportunities and moving quickly to secure coverage, and able to delve into industry related issues. This role is for a go-getter, a positive human who wants to make a difference, and who can drive objectives. Key audiences include law enforcement, government, investors, charities, and NGOs. 

The ideal person is someone who has helped a business to develop its profile across the UK and internationally. Ideally you’ve also worked with international media before and are a dab hand at developing relationships.

Establishing Cyan as the go to source for comment on related industry, society, and technical issues, developing storylines to pitch to relevant media and using news jacking techniques will be your bread and butter. You’ll also need to source and create a steady stream of opinion pieces from senior colleagues. If you’ve also worked with multiple partners, we’d like to hear about it too.  

There is also scope to get creative and develop social media content - think graphics, talking heads and podcasts.   

Person Specification

You must be able to communicate and process great people skills. Cyan pride themselves on having great working relationships between colleagues and on collaborative working. That said, self-starters need only apply, as this role is for someone who wants to make it their own. This is a positive working environment in a company that has a strong mission and company culture.  

You must be a problem solver, someone who can think laterally to find a solution, and strong organisational and time-management abilities are essential. They are currently a small company, but they are on the fast track to expansion and growth. You must be able to work well under pressure when required and have a strong sense of commercial awareness, and the ability to think big.
