Here at Change Recruitment, we enable people from various backgrounds to launch their recruitment careers. You don’t need years of experience to join our team as our experienced and senior members of staff are happy to help you learn the ropes and kickstart your journey in the recruitment profession.
We sat down to chat with Judith Wiemers, a German native who joined Change Recruitment recently after completing a Masters in Strategic Sustainable Business. While she had HR and administrative internships and placements during her degree, we were her first full-time role post-graduation.
Why did you choose a career in recruitment?
I always wanted a job where I could work with different people and, at the same time, I knew that I wouldn’t enjoy a position where I sat at my desk doing the same tasks every day. I was looking for a job where every day would bring a new challenge.
What initially attracted you to Change?
After I saw a job advert, I started to do some research and discovered that Change has a diverse portfolio of clients as well as an interesting website.
For example, they have some fascinating articles and blogs. You can also learn about every recruiter on the website and see straight away their position in the company. I could see that many of the recruiters have been with Change for many years, which is something that I think is quite special.
What’s your favourite part of working in recruitment? Least favourite?
My favourite part is working closely with the candidates and getting to know them. I also obviously enjoy it when I can give them the good news that they have an interview or are offered the job.
Likewise, my least favourite aspect is, probably, when I have to tell candidates that they haven’t been offered an interview or job.
What’s the biggest challenge of working in recruitment?
I am not naturally the most extrovert person, so I have to challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone. But, I enjoy the challenge and ultimately helping job seekers to find a new job.
What advice would you give someone thinking about starting a career in recruitment?
If you enjoy working with different people and feel excited about working in a fast-paced environment, then recruitment is definitely the right career for you.
What support did Change give you to help you launch your career?
My colleagues made it really easy to start my career as everyone was happy to share their knowledge and skills. Working with the team has given me the right “tools” to build a good foundation for my career.
I’ve been here for two months, and I still get constant support and feedback which helps me to improve my skill set and ways of working.
What have you learned since working at Change?
I have definitely learned that communication is key as building strong relationships with candidates and supporting them in the right way requires good communication. I now feel much more confident in approaching and talking to people.
What do you think of the work culture at Change?
The people at Change are really friendly. It’s a very competitive industry, but everybody here is extremely supportive in helping you to reach your goals. Everybody wants you to do well, and I really can see and feel that support.
Would you recommend Change as a good place to work?
I really enjoy working here and would definitely recommend it. You’re constantly encouraged to improve and get all the support you need to make it possible. The colleagues are great, and it’s a really positive work environment.
