The Change Recruitment Group monthly Scottish Labour Market Update, is compiled from sources including the Bank of Scotland Report on Jobs, produced by Markit, and live market research.

Foreword by Mark McFall, Group MD of Change Recruitment Group

“We saw increased demand for staff this month, which was driven by the permanent market, with the interim and contract market running at comparable levels to prior months.   The IT & Digital markets have shown growth in the last few months and this continues with this sector having the greatest demand over the course of last month for both permanent and interim vacancies.”

Market Summary

The recovery of the Scottish labour market continued in September, but like last month, that growth slowed.   This slowed growth was evident across both the Permanent and Temporary markets in terms of demand, and also on the pay front where permanent salaries and temporary rates rose at slower rates than in prior months.

Regional variations:

  • The permanent markets in Dundee and Glasgow saw growth, however these were offset by reductions in Aberdeen and Edinburgh
  • Dundee additionally saw the fastest rise in temporary billings across Scotland as well as the fastest rise in Permanent salaries
