Credit Risk Oversight Manager (2LOD) – Edinburgh – Hybrid (3 days per week in the office)

 

Reporting to the Head of Credit Risk, this Credit Risk Manager (2LOD) opportunity will develop an expert understanding of the Bank’s Risk Appetite and Policy Framework.

You will engage with key stakeholders, including Bankers and Senior Management, to deliver essential messages related to credit risk. Additionally, the Credit Risk Manager will focus on scalability, enhance policies, standards, procedures, and processes, and drive efficiency to positively impact the client journey.

 

Main Responsibilities / Key Duties:

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Provide credit risk guidance to key stakeholders, including the Head of Credit Risk, Chief Risk Officer, Executive Risk Committee, and Board Risk Committee.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Coach, mentor, and train colleagues within the Credit Risk Team and Banking Directors.
  • Comprehensive Oversight: Oversee all aspects of credit risk management, including lending decisions and thematic reviews.
  • Delegated Sanctioning Authority: Make decisions on clients in financial difficulty.
  • Collaboration with Commercial Team: Support clients facing financial difficulty to find mutually acceptable solutions.
  • Policy and Governance Input: Contribute to day-to-day policy, governance, and appetite discussions.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Review and analyse credit risk data, presenting Management Information to the Credit Committee.
  • Climate Change Expertise: Serve as a credit risk subject matter expert regarding financial risks from climate change.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with credit risk regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Event Reporting: Ensure timely escalation and reporting of risk events, breaches, and operational losses.
  • Relationship Building: Build and maintain constructive relationships across the business.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in working groups to enhance processes and contribute to the Bank’s success.

 

Desired qualifications for the Role:

  • Professional Banking Qualification: The ideal candidate will hold relevant professional banking qualifications, such as those from the Chartered Banker Institute.
  • Proven Oversight Experience: A track record of conducting oversight and providing challenge in a credit risk environment.
  • Credit Underwriting Expertise: Experience in credit underwriting, including handling financial difficulties, training, policy, governance, and controls. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial accounts are essential.
  • Technical Specialisation: Ability to apply knowledge of control systems, processes, reporting, and regulatory requirements related to credit risk.
  • Process Implementation: Demonstrated success in implementing and embedding processes that positively impact colleagues, clients, and the Bank.
  • Effective Training: Proven ability to prepare and deliver effective training.
  • Broad Market Knowledge: Diverse knowledge of financial, business, economic, and property markets.
  • Resilience and Collaboration: Ability to remain calm under pressure and work effectively with others to drive change.
